Highline Lake Cleanup.. HELP!!!!!
For many years our club has volunteered in a community give back
by picking up trash around a lake in the area.
Ward Lake up on the Mesa was the beneficiary for many a snowy,
rainy, or beautiful fall day in the mountain air until we were
frozen out one time too many. Highline Lake at the State
Park north of Loma was next. Our outing involves setting a
date in coordination with the park ranger, buying food for the
20-25 who show up for a morning of trash collection, hiking
around the lakes and then consuming lots of good brats and
burgers with many home made treats for dessert. We need a
couple of people to step up and keep this going. Carol
Todd can give out the checklist and advice, but cannot take it
on this year. There was considerable interest shown at the
coffee, so please call Carol at 858-3113 for more info.
Notice to all artists! The National Conservation Area of

MEEKER DOG TRIALS
Here we are in almost mid August.
Time to start the process of lining up all those who are
interested to travel up the road to the annual Sheep Dog Trials
in Meeker.
For those of you who have been in
the past, you know it is a good show. For those who haven't been
so fortunate, join us. The day is fun, and the dogs (and those
human handlers) do amazing things.
It is tentatively planned that we
will go on Sunday, September 12, this year for the finals,
rather than the semi finals we took in last year. While it may
be more crowded, the dogs who make it to the finals really have
their work cut out for them. It should be an interesting show.

Save some time on September 18 for
the Alzheimers Memory walk at Lincoln Park. At the last
Newcomers Meeting, Brooke Wegener, Memory Walk Coordinator for
Grand Junction (970 256-1274) asked the group how many of us
knew someone with Alzheimer's. Almost all the hands went up!
This does touch us all.
The Alzheimer's Association Memory
Walk is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds
for Alzheimer care, support and research - and it calls on
volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against
Alzheimer's. By teaming up with the Alzheimer's Association, you
can walk with a purpose - and move us closer to a world without
Alzheimer's. Together, we can MOVE a nation!
Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised
more than $300 million to help those battling Alzheimer's
disease.
Forming a team for the Memory Walk
can enhance your experience and multiply your impact on the
fight against Alzheimer's. Maybe we can have a Grand Junction
Newcomers Club team. Will someone volunteer to lead the group?
