Ten years ago, historian Abbot Fay (Newcomers member) gave talks to Newcomers Club members in an apartment.  These were all Colorado history subjects.  Because some people have asked about them, the Museum of Western Colorado has arranged for twelve monthly talks, all on Saturday mornings at 10:00 AM.  The first one, “Medicine and Miracles in the Good Old Days”, will be presented on December 20 in the Whitman building at the Museum of Western Colorado.  There is no charge for the talks, and all are welcome.

A cowboy poetry gathering at the Museum of the West at 4th and Ute on November 21 and 22.  During the afternoon 1:00 – 5:00 PM, it is free.  In the evening there is a nominal charge of $5.00.  There will be music and singing as well as story telling in the form of poetry.  There is one cowboy who even brings his horse!  On Thursday evening there is a reception to meet the performers at the Museum and there will also be a free tour of the Museum.

To get to the Museum parking lot go south on fourth and as soon as you pass Colorado Avenue turn left into the alley and the parking lot will be on your right.  If you miss then you will be at UTE Avenue.  Another approach is to get on Ute going west and there is another entrance to the parking lot just after you pass fifth. The action will be in the Whitman house on Friday and Saturday, that's the old building with the big room on the back. On Thursday it's in the Museum from 7:00 - 9:00 PM.  Go up the steps into the brick building.  You can also park at Two Rivers and walk over.

Free concerts in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church at the corner of White Avenue and 5th Street.  These concerts are a great stop for fine entertainment on the way home from the monthly Newcomers coffee.  The concerts start at 12:15 PM and last 30 to 40 minutes.  The following performances are scheduled as follows:

December 10     Javier De Los Santos on Guitar

January 14         Mick Wilson on Clarinet and Connie Smith on Piano

February 11       Arthur Houle on Piano

March 11           Lindsay Hayes on Viola

April 8              Mesa State College Faculty Brass Quintet

May 13             Elias Duo Carlos Elias on Violin and Andrea Arese on Piano

The Art Center's Art and Craft Fair is scheduled for November 21 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and November 22 from 9 AM to 4:00 PM, and November 23 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  This will be a good opportunity to pick up those unique hand crafted holiday gifts.

Symphony Guild Holiday Home Tour.  It is December 6 and 7 from noon – 4:00 PM.  Cost is $15.00.  The tour this year consists of five beautifully decorated homes and a reception with refreshments at the Grand Junction Art Center on 7th and Orchard. Tickets are available at Safeway, Albertsons, City Market, the Symphony Office, and from Symphony Guild members.  Tickets may also be purchased at the reception. All proceeds go to support the Grand Junction Symphony and the Children's Concert.
